Sunday evening service (with communion 1st & 3rd Sundays)
All our services are held in our church building – Alexandra Road Congregational Church (corner of Alexandra Road / Christchurch Road), HP2 5BS.
Everyone is welcome whether you are simply curious about faith and would like to know more, or have been a Christian for years. We are a mix of all types of people: some of us have been in the church for years, a lot of us have arrived more recently. Many of us live in walking distance of the church. We come from lots of different backgrounds, and from various parts of the world. This is one of the joys of our church fellowship.
The morning service has an informal atmosphere. We sing songs, new and old, accompanied by a small music group, pray, read the Bible and listen to a talk, usually from our pastor Chris. We welcome children of all ages to stay in the whole service with us, following along with activity sheets or colouring. Or parents and younger children may use of the entrance hall as a relaxed space where they can also access the service. There’s a creche for 0 – 3s.
Services are followed by drinks and biscuits. You won’t get a better coffee! Once a month we have lunch together. Everyone is welcome to stay.
Sunday School
Sunday | 10.00 – 10.45am | at the church
Between 10.00 and 10.45am each Sunday morning we run Sunday School, meeting together for songs and prayer then splitting into two groups (reception – year 6 & year 7 – 11) for Bible teaching, discussion and work sheets. It’s a great opportunity to learn about Jesus and people in the Bible with friends and complete reward cards for prizes! Anyone is welcome to join!
Church lunch
3rd Sunday each month | 12.45 – 2.00pm | at the church
Once a month we get together for a bring and share church lunch – it’s a chance to enjoy time sharing and getting to know each other better. The food is good too!
Cantonese-speaking church
Sunday | 9.30 – 11.00am | at the church
This is a church plant from Luton Chinese Christian Church, who use our church hall on Sunday mornings. They have been meeting in Hemel since March 2023 led by their pastor, Clement Tang. They aim to meet the needs of those recently arrived in Hemel from Hong Kong who have Cantonese as their first language. We run a combined Sunday School with the Cantonese-speaking church, and have joint services from time to time.
